The problem
- Club competitions still run on paper. Cards come in at the end of the round, and a volunteer sits in the clubhouse typing them into a spreadsheet, working out handicap strokes and Stableford points hole by hole.
- Results go up hours later, sometimes the next day — and a single typo in the stroke index can put the wrong name on the trophy.
- During the round nobody knows who's leading, so the bar never fills with people following a finish. The captain spends competition day doing data entry instead of running the event.
The approach
